Built for the Blues
At the heart of our operations in the Mentawai Islands we’ve always believed that better boats = better waves. That’s why we’re proud to introduce Liverpool, our new custom-built fiberglass surf craft—designed for speed, safety, comfort and minimal impact on the reef environment.

Why “Liverpool”?
The name reflects our love for surf culture and performance—not just ripping waves but doing it together, as a crew and a family. Liverpool captures that spirit: bold, reliable, tuned for performance.
What makes ‘Liverpool’ special
Designed on-site: Replacing older dugout canoes and imported hulls, meaning we maintain and service it ourselves.
Fiberglass hull: Lightweight yet strong — provides quicker acceleration, cleaner handling in reef passages, smoother rides to the line-up.
Optimised for surf missions: Two large outboard motors, shallow draft so we can pull up near reefs safely, wide beam for stability (meaning less sea-sickness and more comfort).
Crew-friendly layout: Ample deck space for surfboards, gear and photographers; shaded cabin area for rest and meals; integrated mount for videography.
Eco focus: Lower fuel consumption than traditional canoes, less wake near delicate reef zones, and all servicing done with local materials and workforce.
Maiden Voyage Highlights
During its first run off the coast of Siberut, Liverpool carried a mixed group of surfers into two perfect runs at Beng Bengs and 4 Bobs. The ride was glassy, the motors quiet, and the arrival support sharp. In the video you’ll see the boat approach, unload and the crew set the stage for a seamless surf session—all within 15 minutes from camp departure.
What this means for you
When you stay with us at Mentawai Surf Camp you’ll benefit directly from Liverpool’s capabilities:
Access to more remote breaks with less crowd pressure.
Faster transfers → more surf time, less lounge time.
Increased reliability in seasonal or marginal conditions.
A more comfortable, safe platform when you’re heading out or back in.
Enhanced filming/photography support (our in-water and drone operators use Liverpool as their base).
Our ongoing commitment
Aquiring Liverpool is just one part of our commitment to sustainable, high-quality surf travel in the Mentawais:
We’ll continue training and employing local boat builders and crews.
We maintain reef-safe operations: respecting coral zones, anchoring responsibly, and limiting fuel impact.
We’ll keep evolving our fleet and infrastructure so your surf mission is as smooth as possible from pickup to wax.
